RIP: Joe Bragg, Past President
Joe Bragg, described by members as one of the Inner Circle’s greats, passed away on Labor Day 2014.
Joe was a radio news reporter in the New York tri-state regtion for more than 30 years on WHN-AM, WILB-AM, WWRL-AM and WRKS-FM. He was also an ordained minister with the title of Reverend Doctor.
Joe became a member of the Inner Circle in 1971 and president in 1979. He also was president of the New York Press Club in 1977.

Larry Sutton said Joe was “arguably our best singer ever.” Shelly Strickler remembered “how audiences reacted the moment Joe Bragg walked on the stage. They looked forward each year to hearing his romantic baritone voice.”Others praised his reporting skills, and some recalled his expose of several City Council members who had accepted a trip to visit South Africa while that country still practiced apartheid. Joe was a fixture up front in Room 9 during several mayoral administrations through 2002. He also covered news in Sudan, South Africa, Japan, The Congo, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Europe.

The Rev, Dr. Bragg died at his home on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. He was 87 years old.
