Stan Brooks Radio Room Dedicated at City Hall
The news radio room at City Hall is now known as the Stan Brooks Radio Room in honor of the veteran WINS newsman and the current dean of Room 9.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the name change Dec. 17, 2013 at his honor’s annual holiday party for reporters at Gracie Mansion.
Stan was unable to attend, but his son, Bennett, and four grandchildren were on hand. Bennett Brooks offered the crowd of reporters Stan’s description of his work as “having a seat on the 50-yard line of history.” Mayor Bloomberg cited Stan for the “millions of people he has informed and engaged over the years” and he noted that Stan also has the respect of a “tough crowd - the many past mayors that he covered.”
