Bob Teague, Groundbreaking Reporter and IC member, Dies at 84

All of us in the Inner Circle mourn the loss of our fellow member and colleague, Bob Teague, who died March 28, 2013.
He was one of the first African-American reporters to appear on air for a major television news station, the author of several books, teacher and lecturer. He was 84.
His wife, Jan, reported the cause of death was T-cell lymphoma.
Bob was a seasoned newspaper reporter, including working at the New York Times, when he made the shift from print to TV news in 1963. He soon established himself for his smart, insightful reports. Over the next three decades, he worked as a reporter, anchor and producer.

Bob wrote two books. The first “Letter to a Black Boy,” was an essay about race written as a series of letter to his young son, Adam. In 1982, he authored “Live and Off-Color: News Biz,” a critique of TV news’ preoccupation with ratings and other practices.

He last appeared on stage in the 2008 show “Young Mikenstein.”
